Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between custom built and modular homes?
Both approaches can produce a highly personalized home. A traditionally built home is constructed primarily on site. A custom modular home is designed for your property and assembled in controlled factory-built sections before being completed on site. We help evaluate which approach best fits your design, property, schedule, and budget.
Which type of home is more cost-effective?
The better value depends on the size and complexity of the home, the conditions of the property, and access to the building site. Some projects are especially well suited to modular construction, while others are more efficiently built traditionally on site. We evaluate both approaches against your plans, property, and priorities to help identify the best overall value.
Is there a material or quality difference between the two types of homes?
No. There is no difference in the quality standards of an Atlantic custom built home and an Atlantic custom modular home. Both are specified with the same materials, finishes, and available options, and both are completed with the same attention to design, craftsmanship, and detail.
What sets Atlantic Building Company apart from other builders?
Our design-build, one-stop-shop approach simplifies the building and selection process by keeping every major part of the project under one roof. We coordinate design, engineering, permitting, land clearing, construction, selections, and landscaping, giving homeowners one connected team from the first idea through move-in.
How long does it take to build a home?
Most homes take approximately 12 to 16 months from the start of design through move-in. The first half of that schedule is typically devoted to design, engineering, costing, selections, and permitting. The second half is generally dedicated to physical construction. Homeowners replacing an existing residence should typically plan to be out of the home for roughly half of the overall project timeline. The final schedule will depend on the home’s size, complexity, property conditions, and municipal approvals.
Can you help with selections?
Yes. Our design team and trusted partners assist throughout the selection process. Items chosen in our office are reviewed with our design team, and we can also accompany you to outside showrooms for selections such as tile, countertops, and plumbing fixtures.
How is construction management handled?
A dedicated site manager is assigned to your project and oversees construction, scheduling, trade coordination, inspections, progress updates, and walkthroughs. Our design team also works closely with the site manager to confirm that the approved design and selections are being implemented properly by the construction team.
What is the warranty on an Atlantic home?
Atlantic homes include 1–2–10 warranty coverage: one year of coverage for qualifying workmanship and materials, two years for qualifying major systems, and ten years for qualifying structural defects. Specific coverage, limitations, exclusions, and claim procedures are governed by the written warranty documents provided for your home.
